The Bend

At 5000ft above the sea level even a hawk fly by under your nose. In front of my niece's house at Lake Arrowhead I was always attracted to this bend not knowing why it catches my attention. It's just another bend but this time forced me to investigate why it's so pleasing to my eyes. The more I look the more rich in textures wide spread of different vegetations. I was wondering somebody planted them or just nature did the job, I have no way of knowing. Most likely it just happened this magnificent tapestry of trees and bushes accentuated with some wild flowers. Guess even an ordinary scenery can be turn into the most exquisite experience and long lasting cherished moment, sensation is genuine and joyous, if I pay more attention to what's lies right in front of my eyes.

The Blue House

9"x13.5" on 12"x16" cold press watercolor paper 

I had a chance to babysit my niece's 5 cats up up in Lake Arrowhead. I took my watercolors instead of oils. It's been a while since I touched watercolor. Very curious about how it gonna translate recent ideas into watercolors, been workin with oils so quite uncertain about transition. While start working this piece, immediately felt something isn't right. First I can't get colors the way I want to, value changes like the weather in the mountains after paints are dried. Make the story short I was pulling my hair out. Waite a minute, I realized that I had to think in terms of watercolor, forgot about nature of watercolor. You can't control not much, then my subconscious whispered to me ....Just let watercolor paint for you. After that I enjoyed making shapes and transparency according to my intuition.
