I would like to invite you to how you can enjoy this painting. To begin with, you just pick a spot where you can start strolling this stone city. As you see and experience this city like a maze and please get lost in it along the way enjoying your personal reaction from textures, colors and shapes. Let your imagination fly so you might feel a sense of living from each household, furthermore you might find a family enjoying their evening stroll or a dog in a alley way wagging his tail. Please enjoy your personal visual voyage along the twisted and turned alleys.

Stone City

     Stone City

     28.5"x30.5" oil on canvas

I had such a strange experience with this painting. To be honest I don't have much of memory how I finished this piece, at the same time I don't recall any of my struggle making decision regarding designing, colors, textures and shapes. Everything went nice and smooth, by the time I turned around this painting was finished, I mean I got the result that I hoped for. I always think result is the everything no matter how hard or how long I worked for it if result is not what I wanted it doesn't mean much. I was wondering why I don't have much of memory of the time I spent, only thing I remember was something like I was unconscious while I was moving brushes. My guess is that I might have experienced what happens when I paint intuitively.

I would like to share with you all about my flight experience last May 2019. My trip started from Los Angeles to Osaka Japan. I usually I take west bound but this time I took east bound as it took me more than 37 hours, I know it sounds crazy but I wanted be up in the air as long as possible, even I embraced the long line of TSA at the LAX and even planned that I will have enough time at the airside once I passed the passport control, I was already in the airside more than 3 hours prior to my departure. Wondering around like a sleep walker, I was already on  could 9. Flight experience was way more better than I expected, seat was comfortable as I'm such a small guy, talking about Food, I had the best inflight dinner ever! The best experience of this flight from LAX to DOH was as I was stumbling down the aisle to the back of the plane where eight of flight attendants were congregating on their break and somehow I was start mingling with them, I still can't remember why this happened but I spent best next 20 minuets of a pow wow up in the air at the back end of the aircraft and in front of the bathrooms. So this 16 hours of my flight went so fast and comfortable. I won't mention about rest of this trip to Osaka as there were so many mishaps to tell so I would like to share with you at some other time.

While wondering when will I be able to start traveling again, this painting popped up in my head.  Since everything is still uncertain, painting like a vignette is more appropriate for this idea, I thought. By making a vignette I had more free rein for my design, shapes, textures and colors. I enjoyed gathering and weaving different shapes with textures and colors like a tapestry. I love the sound of roaring engines, smell of jet fuel, and best of all hearing annoying yet comforting yapping sounds of fellow travelers. I hope these days will come back to us soon and like to find myself standing in line at a gate before boarding at some faraway land.

A Morning Routine

A Morning Routine

29"x30.5" oil on canvas

10/11/20

Before I start this painting I had a pretty good idea how this piece would be like at the end. Well, I was so wrong this time. I never had a piece that went through so many changes along the way, the color of the wall I had change 4 or 5 times and further more I changed the color of the foreground 4 or 5 times. As you know if you change one thing you have to change another, I was pulling my hair out. Going to sleep thinking that everything seems coming together after so many changes but in the morning I was convinced somebody might have came in and changed the piece. I kept telling myself, What a .............! It is such a dilemma and painful to think I might have to change the colors AGAIN! Anyways, at the end I somehow managed to come up with sensation that I hoped for.

Floating

 Floating

28.5"x30.5" oil on canvas

9/18/20

At the beginning I was very curious about how far I can simplify a painting but then soon I realized it was harder than I thought, yet what I found out was that I saw myself having a fun trying to make something excited about out of limited shapes. Like always, I had to either fake it or wing it till I make it but along the way I often come across with new colors, textures and so on. Lots of times I end up with unexpected paintings, this is what I would say you learn by doing it. This piece I really enjoyed coming up something interesting within limited shapes or areas of painting, I would say. One more thing I realized that it is easy to recognize a painting from a distance if it is painted in a simple way, which I have to think about. Someone said, how to enjoy a painting, first look at the painting from a distance, then stand in front of the painting then finally look at the painting really close, I mean REALLY close!

Twilight

Twilight

28.5"x30" oil on canvas

8/28/20

At the beginning I was wondering what kid of textures I can fill this painting with. To my surprise one texture led to the other I managed to cover this whole painting.  Love to enjoy those textures at the same time I embrace emergence of new shapes that I didn't planned when I started. This painting I started pay more attention to each shapes hoping to find some comfort to my eyes. Those shapes have unlimited possibilities but unfortunately I have to choose one or more likely I have to twist each shapes to my liking.  As for the colors I wish they might help to create ambience of twilight which is my favorite time of the day. A cup of coffee everyone?
